On June 24, the Green Development-Design and Development of Thermal Functional Materials project of Shanghai New Age International Summer School held a unique Chinese calligraphy experience activity, inviting Professor Qu Zhihao to teach Chinese Calligraphy Art to 28 foreign students from more than 10 countries, including Spain, Italy and the United States. With the theme of Learning Chinese Calligraphy is Interesting, the course leads foreign students to appreciate the profound connotation of Chinese calligraphy through the combination of theoretical explanation and practical experience.

Starting from the origin of Chinese characters and taking oracle bone inscriptions as an example, Professor Qu vividly demonstrated the evolution of Chinese characters from pictographic symbols to modern calligraphy. In particular, he emphasized that Chinese characters are not only the carrier of language, but also a unique visual art. Calligraphy carries the spiritual connotation of Chinese civilization, and about 200 to 300 million people around the world study calligraphy, which shows its charm. In the interactive experience, the foreign students used the traditional four treasures of the study with great interest and tried to write the oracle bone inscriptions of the twelve zodiac signs under the guidance of Professor Qu.

At the end of the course, Professor Qu also explained the writing method of the word Fu and its profound cultural implications. He introduced that the word Fu symbolizes auspiciousness and happiness in Chinese traditional culture. Following Professor Qu's demonstration, the foreign students wrote the word Fu one stroke at a time and felt the good wishes behind the Chinese characters.

As an important part of the cultural exchange section of Shanghai New Age International Summer School, this activity not only enriches the academic life of international students, but also builds a bridge to promote cross-cultural exchanges.
