The final of the 3rd “Canature Health Cup” Shanghai College Students’ Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition concluded successfully on May 17. Jointly hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the Shanghai Competition Committee of College Students’ Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition, and undertaken by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, the competition received numerous entries from universities across the city. After rigorous online preliminary evaluation, a total of 120 outstanding works stood out and advanced to the on-site final defense. Our school’s students achieved remarkable results, winning 3 first prizes and 4 second prizes. Meanwhile, the university was awarded the Excellent Organization Award, which fully demonstrates the solid educational outcomes in green and low-carbon scientific and technological innovation as well as the outstanding comprehensive quality of our students.

Focusing on the core theme of “energy conservation, emission reduction and green low-carbon development”, the competition closely aligns with the national “dual carbon” strategic goals. It is committed to guiding college students to carry out scientific and technological innovation and social practice with professional knowledge and fostering innovative talents for green development. Featuring extensive participation and fierce competition, the competition selects outstanding works through multiple rounds of professional evaluation and on-site defense. Three projects from our school won municipal first prizes. They include: “Energy Storage for Freshness” — Traceable Cold Chain Equipment with Long-term Precision Temperature Control Based on Phase Change Cold Storage, led by student Wang Yifan and supervised by Professor Yu Wei; “Green Pioneer” Initiative — Design of Ethanol Fuel Cells with Tin-based Palladium Catalysts, led by student Wang Hecong and supervised by Professor Lin Donghai; and Water Harvesting for Greenhouse Conservation — An Integrated Water-saving Irrigation System Driven by High-efficiency Hygroscopic Gels, led by student Fu Jingli and supervised by Professor Wang Lingling.
The university was honored with the Excellent Organization Award for its thorough overall arrangement, extensive student mobilization and standardized competition organization. Adhering to the education philosophy of promoting learning and innovation through competitions, the School of Energy and Materials has long focused on cultivating scientific and technological innovation talents, continuously built high-quality platforms for scientific research and practical innovation, and guided students to actively respond to the national green development strategy. The outstanding achievements in this competition fully reflect the solid effectiveness of the school’s scientific and technological innovation education and integration of industry and education.
In the future, the School of Energy and Materials will further focus on green and low-carbon development, cultivate a vigorous atmosphere for scientific and technological innovation, and encourage students to engage in scientific research and practice on energy conservation and emission reduction. The school will support the national “dual carbon” development with youthful innovative strength and continuously polish its featured brand of innovation-oriented talent cultivation.
