On February 1, the founding meeting and the first academic conference of the Carbon Footprint Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences was grandly held at the Nanjing Zijin Conference Center. As the first national academic organization dedicated to the carbon footprint field in China, the establishment of the committee marks that the construction of China’s dual-carbon governance system has entered a new stage of specialization and standardization. Secretary Chen Yong and Professor Yu Wei from our school were invited to attend the conference. At the special sub-forum of the Science Popularization and Talent Training Working Group, they delivered reports and shared the school’s practical achievements of industry-education integration in dual-carbon talent cultivation.
Hosted by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, the conference gathered 295 candidate committee members from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, local governments, renowned universities, scientific research institutions and key enterprises, including top experts and scholars engaged in carbon footprint policy formulation, standard development, database construction and industrial transformation. Li Gao, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Chen Zhongwei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, and other leaders attended and addressed the opening ceremony. They emphasized the vital significance of constructing a standardized carbon footprint management system for achieving national dual-carbon goals, and stressed the need to strengthen discipline development and professional talent training to underpin high-quality green and low-carbon development.
The conference reviewed and adopted six regulatory documents including theArticles of Association of the Carbon Footprint Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (Draft), and elected the first leading body of the committee. It clarified seven key development directions for the committee, covering standard system construction, policy research, industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and professional talent training. Among them, the Science Popularization and Talent Training Working Group focuses on promoting the popularization of carbon footprint knowledge and optimizing the professional talent training system, which is highly consistent with the school’s educational orientation and development priorities. Our school will actively participate in relevant work and give full play to its professional advantages in this field.
